Dances of the Sacred and Profane at the Cowell Theater

September 3, 2014

For Camille’s debut creating interactive visuals for live performance, she teams up with choreographer Mark Foeringer, physicist David Glowacki, and sound designer Michael St. Clair to create Dances of the Sacred and Profane which premieres this September in San Francisco at the Cowell Theater in Fort Mason.

This innovative performance, developed around a Claude Debussy score, uses a real-time particle physics system to re-imagine the Impressionist project of depicting the feeling of passing time.

Camille and choreographer Mark Foehringer began discussing the possibility of a collaboration in 2011 when they met at Djerassi Artists Residency. To create the interactive visuals for this performance, Camille used the danceroom Spectroscopy (dS) system developed by David Glowaki. The dS system uses real time 3D motion capture to generate molecular simulations in which people are visualized as energy fields within an atomic world. Camille worked with David and his team to modify the visualizations to fit with the themes of Mark’s choreography and Michael St. Clair’s sound design, which also is generated from the dancer’s movements.
